Upcycled furniture being the topic of relevance. As we live in a society with trend of use and throw, the attention of the consumers must be drawn over upcycled products including the upcycled furniture as to build a sustainable environment

1. IDENTIFICATION AND IDENTITY

Being a responsible citizen of the world we should adapt ways to save the environment from depleting for the future generation and come up with ideas designs which a are sustainable or think of using the waste which is not recyclable and try to create new possiblities with it.

2. SOLUTION

  • The solution to the problem stated above can be solved by the creating sustainable designs and products.
  • One of the sustainable design methods of designing is up-cycling of waste.
  • Up-cycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.

4. CONCEPTUALISATION AND MATERIALS

Stacking unit using oil tin cans and vegetable vendor’s cart

STACKING UNIT:
  • The idea of up-cycling the used oil tin cans was used in designing this stacking unit giving it a raw industrial decor furniture aesthetics.
  • Prototype has been made as an scaled down version using cold drink cans substituting oil tin cans at a primary stage.

MATERIALS USED IN THE PROTOTYPE:
  • MDF board,
  • wire,
  • cold drink cans,
  • acrylic and spray paint

  • Oil Tin cans,
  • scrap metal waste,
  • vegetable cart,

  • welding machine.

USP: Eco friendly way of converting waste into furniture.
 
TARGET CONSUMERS: Those looking for industrial decor furniture, middle class income group and above.

7. PROTOTYPE

  • The prototype is made with cold drink cans as to avoid wastage and promote upcycling.
  • The products colour is selected to be turquoise blue as the whole product is made out of waste, to give it a fresh look rather than green as green would have been too bright for a decent decor.
